Engineering and technology are worthy not just because they provide smartphones and the internet. What is more important is that all kinds of experiences and positive effects they generate. (Actually, without those true values, technology can immediately turn into a devastating catastrophe like nuclear bombs) Thanks to the rise of artificial intelligence and efforts from considerate scientists, now we try our best to re-design many of our services that are present in our society, in an efficient, eco-friendly, and of course, human-centered way.
Many people claim that human beings are not more intelligent than what they had developed, so we have to consistently examine, and introspect ourselves to collect what we have possibly missed during all those eras we have been through among hundreds of years of history. This claim, however, is no longer a simple belief because now we are apparently learning from the pasts(3D printers, for example-100% consists old technologies, but still regarded as one of the cutting-edge fields), and responsibilities by the decisions we made: Climate change, environmental cataclysm and various international treaties to recover those... We now know that reckless, inconsiderate, speed-oriented development is actually distancing us from what we really want to have.
Now, the world is changing. The difference between engineers, designers, and creators is becoming a little obscure. Emphasize on the basics, rather than the immediate benefits are getting larger and larger. As a student studying such studies, I believe that I should not only be always alerted about such conditions but also try my best to cope with the given crisis in an interdisciplinary way, keeping in mind that the attitudes mentioned above.
